Welcome to Fatuma’s Tower Guest House

Fatuma’s Tower Guest House

Fatuma’s Tower Guest House is a small historic eco-friendly family run guest house located in Shela Beach in Lamu Island. The property which had been abandoned for nearly over 100 years was carefully restored in 1998 by Gillies and Fiammetta Turle who have been living in Kenya for many years and moved to Shela. Gillies’ lifelong work with antiques led to a detailed restoration of the building, successfully retaining the original feel of this historic house. Gillies and Fiammetta live on the firs.

At Fatuma's Tower you guest are invited into the home of Gillies and Fiammetta Turle, who want their guests to feel at ease and experience the peace and comfort of this tranquil space. More than a guest house they refer to it as their house for guests - a hidden corner of the world where you can find time for yourself. The Tower is named after Fatuma Abu Bakar a Swahili noblewoman who lived in this sanctuary attended by five female slaves until the end of the 19th century. After her death and the abolition of slavery the house fell into ruins and the magnificent tamarind tree growing in the courtyard established itself in the ruins of the fallen masonry. Fatumas Tower facilities include an outdoor plunge pool, yoga hall, and spa and wellness services. It also offers an indigenous garden and thatched-roof library. During their stay, guests enjoy an abundance of sweet tropical fruits, farm-fresh produce and home-cooked light combination of Italian and Swahili meals, seafood and vegetarian dishes served in the property’s spacious antique gardens. The experienced cooks are always available for the duration of guests stay which makes self-catering both affordable and delicious.
Rooms Description
The accommodation consists of 3 separate buildings; The Tower which is the main building (Fatuma’s Tower) has five double bedrooms namely: Garden Room (on the ground floor with French doors opening to the garden), Acacia Rooftop Suite (on the 3rd floor), Top Apartments (on the 2nd floor with 2 double bedrooms and with own kitchen and dining area) & Balcony Room (located on 1st floor with a double and single bed) and there is also a large yoga hall in the tower.
